License Information
Generally,
the cost and requirements for a marriage license vary by county.
Information regarding this is available through your county probate
judge's office.
Madison County
In Madison County, Alabama, the license fee is
$53.00. The fee for a ceremony at the courthouse is $5.00. Only cash
payments are accepted. Licenses are only valid for 30 days from the
date of purchase, so it is wise to purchase them two or three weeks out
to give yourself some leeway. Licenses purchased in Alabama may only be
used in Alabama, but may be purchased in any county -- you need not be
a county resident or even an Alabama resident, merely a US resident.
A vaild driver's license or state non-driver ID is required for those
18 and over. For those 16 or 17, both parents are required to be
present. In the case of sole custody, legal documents may be required.
If one is not a US citizen, a valid passport and VISA are required for
identification. Both parties (bride and groom) must be present to
obtain a license.
The Madison County Courthouse Marriage License Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 until 4:30.
